Desideria grows up in a middle-class house. When she learns from her adoptive mother Viola that her real mother was a whore, her life changes abruptly. She rebels against Viola, seeks revenge and decides to become a whore like her mother in order to pay back the money she was bought for. Her life-experienced friend Delfina introduces her to the well-known bawd Diomira, who is supposed to sell Desideria’s innocence to the highest bidder. But at the decisive moment Desideria pinches and runs away. She also resists the advances of Emilio and Tiberi. In Erostrato, Desideria meets a young revolutionary who, like her, is rebelling against the ailing affluent society. As they plan their revenge together, a fateful affair takes its tragic course…
